A new organization in the Virgin Islands named Generation Next has organized a host of entertainment events this coming weekend on St. Croix, including two comedy shows — one of which is already sold out.

Dubbed "Live Comedy", the events feature Ronnie Jordan from BET's Comic View and Sean P. Diddy Combs' Bad Boys of Comedy, Tyler Chronicles from MTV's Wild 'N Out, and Vanessa Fraction from HBO's Comedy Def Jam and Barbershop 2.

The first show, which is already sold out, will take place at Nirvana Bar & Lounge on Strand Street, Christiansted, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Friday.

Tickets are still on sale for the Saturday night show, however, which is taking place at Levels on Company Street, Christiansted from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

Generation Next Founder Jed JohnHope said the organization was formed a few months ago and consists of about 50 members. "We are a group of passionate young Virgin Islanders who came together to form this organization. We believe that this place needs meaningful change and we support leaders who commit to transparency, innovation and equal opportunity for all," he said.

Regarding the comedy events, Mr. JohnHope said there's no better art form to lighten the mood during an election cycle. “Comedy is one of those things that brings people together. The shortest distance between two people is a good laugh. It has been a long election season and there is a lot of hard feelings," and being able ease tensions through laughter just seemed like a good idea, he said.

"It’s never too serious that you can’t sit back and laugh for an afternoon. I just wanted to bring folks together to have a great time and enjoy life. We live in a place where we get to elect our leaders, and that is something that needs to be celebrated," Mr. JohnHope stated.

Regarding Generation Next's core mission, the founder said, “Education, Healthcare, Innovation and Economic Development are the main pillars of our platform and the community can look forward to events that will stimulate discussion and foster development in these key areas."
