The intersection of pageantry and salsa is here, with registration now open for the Virgin Islands Salsa Festival Queen Competition, scheduled for June 1, 2024.

Festival Director Alexander Simon announced on Monday that registration is open to contestants in three age categories: Little Princess (4-7), Princess (8-11), and Queen (18-45). The competition “promised to be a celebration of talent and cultural richness,” says Mr. Simon, as he invited “all passionate and dedicated individuals…to seize the opportunity to become part of the legacy of the Virgin Islands Salsa Festival.”

The festival, organized by the Cruzan Dance Company, featured salsa sensations Joey Hernandez y Puerto Rico es Salsa and Nikki Brooks during this year’s inaugural event. The performers are well-known for their riveting stage presence and infectious rhythms.

While the performance line-up for next year’s Salsa Festival has not yet been announced, the Festival Queen competition will provide a platform for contestants to “showcase their skills and passion for the history of salsa and Latin culture,” according to Mr. Simon.

Those interested in competing are asked to visit the festival website for further details, or to call (888) 923-2623 for information. Registration runs until November 27, 2023.
