On Monday, the first day of early voting in the Virgin Islands, voters turned out in consistent numbers, according to data released by the Elections System of the Virgin Islands.
On St. Croix, 215 voters cast ballots early, while 189 early voters did the same on St. Thomas, for a total of 404 across the territory.
Early voting continues until Monday October 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Early voting on St. John will begin on October 21, and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until October 28. Voting Centers – the elections office on each island – will be open on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
Registered voters are reminded that absentee ballots are also available for those unable to vote early or in person on Election Day. Citizens can request absentee ballots from the Elections System website, up until 5 p.m. on November 5.
As early voting continues on Tuesday, the Virgin Islands Board of Elections has announced an emergency board meeting at 5 p.m. “to address an urgent board matter,” according to an announcement from the Election System.
