The Elections System of the Virgin Islands announced late Monday that 11,849 Virgin Islanders cast their ballots early as of Oct. 31 — the last day of early voting — representing 30 percent of registered voters in the territory.
According to the Elections System, 5,963 early votes were cast on St. Croix, which has a 445-vote lead over St. Thomas's 5,518. On St. John 368 votes were cast early.
Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes deemed the early voting process a success and thanked all those involved in its execution.
Electors' next chance to vote is on election day, which falls on Nov. 8 this year from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Ms. Fawkes said voters who were unable to cast their ballot early or on election day may obtain an absentee ballot at the Elections System or through email. An absentee ballot can be obtained by the elector or a representative of the elector, according to the Elections System.
