Delegate to Congress and gubernatorial candidate Stacey Plaskett.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Elect Democratic Women has endorsed Rep. Stacey Plaskett in her campaign for governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, citing her congressional work on disaster recovery, healthcare access, economic growth, climate resilience and voting rights.
The political organization is led by current members of Congress and focuses on electing more Democratic women to Congress. Since its establishment in 2018, Elect Democratic Women has raised more than $40 million and supported over 200 women candidates.
“Elect Democratic Women is proud to endorse Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett in her campaign to become the next Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands,” said Liz Gallagher, Executive Director of Elect Democratic Women. “A proven leader, accomplished attorney, and devoted mother, Congresswoman Plaskett has never stopped advocating for economic growth, climate resilience, voting rights, and a stronger future for the people of the Virgin Islands. We're proud to support her as she brings that same relentless commitment to the people of the Virgin Islands as their next Governor.”
Plaskett said she intends to bring the experience gained through her congressional work back to the territory as she seeks the Governor’s Office.
“I've spent my career fighting for the nearly four million Americans living in our territories, and I'm ready to bring that same fight home,” said Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett. “I'm honored to have the support of Elect Democratic Women as I take on this next chapter. In Congress, I fought to deliver for the Virgin Islands after Irma and Maria, to expand health care access, and to make sure our voice was heard in rooms where territories are too often overlooked. Now I’m ready to bring that same experience and determination to the Governor’s office.”
