The Election System of the Virgin Islands announced Sunday that 3,581 electors cast their ballots during the first week of early voting, and Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes is expecting the numbers to "rise significantly" as early voting continues.
Electors have until Oct. 31 to vote early, and elections officials are encouraging residents to take advantage of the opportunity so they won't have to wait in long lines on election day, scheduled for Nov. 8 this year.
St. Thomas is leading early voting so far with 1,798 ballots cast, followed by St. Croix with 1,660, and St. John with 123.
Voting hours on St. Croix and St. Thomas are from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Voting hours on St. John are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Early voting locations are:
- District of St. Croix Elections Office-Sunny Isle Shopping Center Unit 26
- District of St Croix- St. Joseph Church Hospitality Lounge
- District of St. Thomas-St. John- St. Thomas- Lockhart Gardens (Upstairs Banco Popular)
- District of St. Thomas-St. John- St. Thomas-Tutu Park Mall (former Scotia Bank location)
- District of St. Thomas-St. John – Market Place Suite II
For those who can't vote early or on election day, they or their representative can obtain an emailed absentee ballot or an absentee ballot from the Elections System Office. Tuesday, October 11, 2022, was the last day to request a Mail Out Absentee Ballot.
