A total of 1,145 voters cast ballots Friday as early voting opened for the 2026 general election, according to the Elections System of the Virgin Islands. The agency reported 618 voters for St. Croix, 519 for St. Thomas and eight for St. John.
Supervisor of Elections Caroline F. Fawkes said she was pleased with the positive start to voter participation. The Elections System described the turnout as reflecting voters’ commitment to the democratic process and exercising their right to vote.
Early voting on St. Croix and St. Thomas continues daily through Saturday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including Saturdays and Sundays. On St. John, early voting is scheduled for October 23 through October 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., also including weekends. Voters in the St. Thomas-St. John District may cast their ballots at either Elections System office within the district.
The early voting locations are the St. Croix Elections Office at Sunny Isles Shopping Center, Unit 26, and the St. Thomas Elections Office at Lockhart Gardens, upstairs from Banco Popular. On St. John, voting will take place at the Elections Office in The Marketplace, Suite II, on the third floor.
Ms. Fawkes also reminded voters that Tuesday, October 20, is the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot that must be mailed off island. The Elections System said the deadline is intended to allow timely delivery through the United States Postal Service.
Absentee ballots are available for voters unable to participate during early voting or on General Election Day, Tuesday, November 3. Applications are available through the Elections System’s website and at its offices throughout the territory. In a separate reminder, the agency said voters may request emailed or in-person absentee ballots through 5 p.m. on November 3.
For additional information, voters may contact the Office of the Supervisor of Elections at 340-773-1021 on St. Croix or 340-774-3107 on St. Thomas.
