With the 2024 General Election approaching, early voting in the U.S. Virgin Islands is gaining momentum as it enters the final eight days, according to the Election System of the Virgin Islands.
The Supervisor of Elections, Caroline Fawkes, is urging voters not to wait until the last minute to cast their ballots, highlighting the importance of timely participation before early voting ends on Monday, October 28.
As of Sunday, a total of 2,389 voters have participated in early voting across the territory. The breakdown of voter turnout shows 1,350 early voters on St. Croix, 1,036 on St. Thomas, and 3 on St. John. Early voting on St. John is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 21, 2024, with daily hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., running through October 28.
Polling hours for early voting are set from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on St. Croix and St. Thomas, while St. John’s polling site will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. throughout the early voting period. Election centers will also operate during the weekends to accommodate voters. The early voting locations include the St. Croix Elections Office at Sunny Isles Shopping Center, the St. Thomas Elections Office at Lockhart Gardens (upstairs Banco Popular), and the St. John Elections Office at Market Place Suite II, 3rd Floor.
Ms. Fawkes encouraged voters to make their voices heard, reminding the community that the election process is for the people. "Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision," she quoted, invoking Abraham Lincoln's words to stress the importance of civic participation.
