The University of the Virgin Islands is set to host its Spring 2025 New and Transfer Student Orientation with a lineup of activities designed to prepare incoming students for their academic journey. Events will take place from January 8 to January 11 on the Orville E. Kean Campus (OEK) on St. Thomas and on January 10 on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix.

“Orientation marks a significant milestone for incoming students as they embark on their academic journey,” said Dr. Leslyn Tonge, dean of students for the OEK Campus.

The St. Thomas orientation will feature a range of events, including campus tours, technology orientation, academic advising, and registration. Students will also have opportunities to participate in ice breakers, island tours, talent shows, and movie nights, offering a mix of essential information and engaging social activities to help them transition into university life.

“We look forward to fostering a supportive and vibrant community for all new students and encouraging them to take part in the spirited campus life that we cultivate on our campuses,” Dr. Tonge said.

More information about orientation events on the OEK Campus can be found at https://orientation.uvi.edu.

On the Albert A. Sheen Campus, orientation activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the university’s library, located in the Melvin Evans Center on the 700 Level. Events include workshops, presentations, and academic advising, followed by the Buccaneer Welcome Reception at 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Colvin Georges Jr., dean of students on the Sheen Campus, emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment for incoming students. “This is a new beginning for our students, and we want to ensure they have all the support services and resources they need to succeed at UVI,” he said.

Dr. Georges added that UVI is committed to providing students with a well-rounded university experience. “We want our students to have rigorous academics that build a strong foundation for successful careers, fun and engaging social events, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in UVI’s many clubs and organizations.”
