The University of the Virgin Islands was recently featured on Forbes.com as one of the top online degree programs offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the U.S. in 2023.
Notably, the UVI program was highlighted for its low student-to-faculty ratio, competitive student retention rates, and affordable tuition costs, according to a release from the institution. The ranking was informed by research carried out by Forbes Advisor, an online resource for financial decision-making.
UVI President, Dr. David Hall, expressed gratitude for the recognition from Forbes, emphasizing that the UVI online degree program combines affordability with a strong academic curriculum, close-knit class settings, and convenient access to faculty. The program has been operational since 2018, designed to meet increasing demand both locally and globally.
Currently, UVI's online program offers associate, bachelor, and master degrees in six accredited programs, including Management, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, and Educational Leadership. Additional programs are introduced based on demand. All classes are conducted online by qualified UVI professors and include free online tutoring and online or in-person office hours.
The online program is overseen by UVI Provost, Dr. Camille McKayle, and a committed team including Dr. Pamela Moolenaar-Wirsiy, Dr. Ameeta Jadav, and Wendy Fedler. Their focus is to ensure a high-quality, consistent, and user-friendly learning experience that mirrors the quality of UVI's on-campus programs.
UVI said its online program offers multiple start dates throughout the year, and with semesters lasting only eight weeks, students have the flexibility to choose their study pace. The next session is due to start from Aug. 2 - Sept. 27, 2023, with applications open until July 21, 2023. More details and applications can be found at https://online.uvi.edu/.
