Ocean Point Terminals, formerly Limetree Bay Terminals announced Friday that fourteen USVI high students who graduated this year were awarded scholarships totaling $22,000 for the 2022-2023 school year — a move that keeps in line with the company’s commitment to education.

According to the release, this year is notable as Ocean Point celebrates a significant milestone for its scholarship program: the fourteen students receiving awards this year bring the total number of scholarship recipients to 100 since the program’s inception in 2017.

This year’s scholarship recipients include:

  • Alexandra Bhola who will attend the University of Pennsylvania
  • Sakari Clendenin who will attend Hofstra University
  • Tianna Davis who will attend Bradley University
  • Michael Dizon-Bumann who will attend Cornell University
  • Jada Joseph who will attend Florida A&M University
  • Ari-El Joshua who will attend Elizabeth City State University
  • Makari Matthew who will attend Baylor University
  • Rohan Nagi who will attend the University of San Diego

  • Nancy Parilla who will attend Nova Southeastern University
  • Michele Pemberton who will attend Howard University
  • Shaudae Richardson who will attend Florida International University
  • Jamyka Smith who will attend Syracuse University.

Recipients are selected based on their scholastic record and financial need compared to other applicants, Ocean Point said. To retain the scholarships, which are renewed annually every four years, the students are required to maintain good academic standing at an accredited U.S. college or university.

Ocean Point Terminals Chief Operating Officer Jeff Charles expressed his congratulations to this year’s recipients. “Every year, we award scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence throughout their educational career, and this year is no exception," he said. "As an organization, we are committed to supporting Virgin Islands students through their post-secondary education, and I am incredibly proud of this year’s recipients who have shown their resilience by adapting to and exceling under the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic."

According to the release, Ocean Point will award more than $100,000 in scholarships to new and existing scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 school year, and has awarded almost $600,000 since the program’s inception.
