ST. THOMAS — The St. Thomas-St. John District Office of the Insular Superintendent recently announced a significant educational shift. The Lockhart Primary School (K-3) and the Addelita Cancryn Intermediate & Junior High School (4-8) have merged to form the Lockhart K-8 School. The school district has now unveiled back-to-school orientation details for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.
Lockhart K-8 School has scheduled an important orientation for students and their guardians. All parents and guardians are urged to accompany their children to this event. In a nod to the school's ethos of discipline and pride, students are required to attend in full uniform.
Additionally, guardians are requested to provide a copy of their child's up-to-date immunization card and ensure that all necessary paperwork is complete by the orientation day. As part of the welcome process, newly enrolled students must present their admission slip given by the registration office.
Orientation Details
The orientation will take place over two days. On Wednesday, August 2, Kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade students will attend at staggered times throughout the day: Kindergarten at 9:00 a.m.; 1st and 2nd Grade at 11:00 a.m.; and 3rd Grade at 1:00 p.m.
The following day, Thursday, August 3, will see students from the fourth to the eighth grade oriented at scheduled intervals: 4th, 5th, & 6th Grade at 9:00 a.m.; 7th Grade at 11:00 a.m.; and 8th Grade at 1:00 p.m.
Student Fees
The school also clarified its fee structure, emphasizing that fees would be collected before and after the orientation. Charges include fees for Physical Education Uniforms ranging from $20.00 - $30.00 and an insurance fee of $18.00. The school noted that those with private insurance must present a copy of it, should they wish not to purchase the school's offering. Student IDs for the 7th and 8th graders will cost $15.00, and there will be an additional $25.00 for other school-related expenses.
Uniform Clarity
Concerning uniforms, Lockhart K-8 School announced that the current attire would remain unchanged. The kindergarten to third-grade students will wear light blue tops with navy-blue bottoms. The fourth to the sixth-grade students will sport white tops with navy-blue bottoms, while the seventh and eighth graders will wear white tops with maroon bottoms.
