Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett on Tuesday announced two grants provided to USVI government arms from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The first grant of $2.4 million was announced for the V.I. Dept. of Health to facilitate emergency protective measures. "This funding has been allocated to provide ambulances, personnel, equipment, and supplies for emergency protective measures against the spread of the virus," Ms. Plaskett said. “We will continue to keep our community safe. The funding provided by FEMA will provide the Virgin Islands Department of Health with the resources needed to help fulfill their mission of keeping the public safe.”

Along with the V.I. D.O.H. grant, the V.I. Water and Power Authority was the recipient of a $16.8 million grant from FEMA for damages resulting from Hurricane Maria.

"This funding has been allocated to restore facilities to pre-disaster design, capacity, and function," Ms. Plaskett said. "This funding will help recovery efforts on replacing and re-stringing overhead electric distribution and secondary circuits, wooden power poles,  and pole mount streetlights, ultimately aiding in the rebuild of our community.”
