The V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Office is launching a public outreach campaign to gather public interest in participating in residential flood and wind mitigation programs.

According to VITEMA, through the Residential Retrofits for Resiliency program, USVI residents may be eligible to receive funding through FEMA to implement a wind retrofit to their homes, including a roof retrofit and/or replacement, installation of impact-resistant shutters or windows and doors, and ensuring their home can withstand extreme wind events.

Through the Residential Flood Mitigation program, USVI residents that suffer from recurring flooding may be eligible to receive FEMA funding to complete a voluntary acquisition, elevation, or reconstruction of their home.

These programs will be funded through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), and they are voluntary programs. In addition, participation in other federal home repair programs do not preclude residents from partaking in either of these two VITEMA Residential Mitigation Programs, according to the release.

Any USVI resident that is interested in participating in either of these programs are encouraged to complete the survey through the provided link here

The deadline for completing the survey is October 24. Questions regarding the programs and outreach campaign should be directed to [email protected] or (340)-202-1221 ext. 1256.
