The Vincent Mason Pool renovation project has reached a important stage, marking a new chapter for the beloved community space in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
Early Tuesday morning, construction crews began pouring over 200 cubic yards of concrete, setting the foundation for what is expected to become a state-of-the-art recreational facility for the entire Virgin Islands community.
The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation, in partnership with various local agencies and contractors, spearheads the project. According to DSPR Commissioner Calvert White, “The progress on the Vincent Mason Pool renovation is a significant milestone for both the Department and the community. This project represents our commitment to enhancing recreational spaces that promote inclusivity, wellness, and togetherness.”
The revitalized facility will feature numerous enhancements aimed at inclusivity and family-friendly experiences. Among the key upgrades are a beach-style entry, particularly beneficial for children and seniors, and an ADA-compliant lift to ensure accessibility for all visitors. Additional improvements include shaded huts, new tiling, modern BBQ grills, cabanas, and updated playground equipment—all designed to provide a relaxing and enjoyable environment for the public.
Visitors will also benefit from fully refurbished restrooms. The incorporation of lush landscaping, including new trees, will further enhance the look of the facility.
Once complete, the Vincent Mason Pool is set to serve as a centerpiece for community activities and gatherings in Frederiksted.
The project has been made possible through the collective efforts of several agencies and partners, including the Virgin Islands Office of Disaster Recovery, J. Benton Construction LLC, the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, the and V.I. Department of Property and Procurement.
