Governor Albert Bryan has officially released the 2023 Holiday Schedule, which outlines the upcoming dates for administrative leave and closures of Virgin Islands government offices.
This year's schedule includes traditional holidays and special days unique to the Virgin Islands, providing employees with time off to celebrate and participate in local festivities.
Key Holiday Closures and Administrative Leave Days:
- Veteran’s Day Observance: On Friday, November 10, 2023, government offices will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day.
- Thanksgiving Day: Government offices will also be closed on Thursday, November 23, 2023, for Thanksgiving Day.
- Day after Thanksgiving: On Friday, November 24, 2023, non-essential Executive Branch employees will be granted administrative leave from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Christmas and Boxing Day: The Christmas Day Holiday on Monday, December 25, and Boxing Day on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, will see government offices closed.
- New Year’s Day: The beginning of 2024 will be marked by a closure on New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1.
- Crucian Christmas Festival: A series of administrative leaves are granted to non-essential Executive Branch employees on St. Croix to participate in the Crucian Christmas Festival. These include leave for the Food, Arts, and Crafts Fair on Wednesday, January 3, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; for J’Ouvert on Thursday, January 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and for the Children’s Parade on Friday, January 5, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. territory-wide.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day: On Monday, January 15, 2024, offices will be closed to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
- Three Kings Day: Although not a public holiday, Three Kings Day will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
This holiday schedule reflects the observance of both cultural and national events.
