The Agriculture and Food Fair of the U.S. Virgin Islands Board of Directors announced Thursday that after much consideration, the 50th Annual AgriFest has been postponed to May due to the ongoing uncertainties tied to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event is traditionally held in February of each year. It is now scheduled for May 28, 29 and 30, 2022, the board announced.

"The Board would like our 50th Jubilee to be celebrated in grand fashion; however, with the current state of the pandemic and the recently discovered new variant, this may not be feasible," stated the release.

The board said it anticipates the fair can be safely executed in a manner to truly represent the golden jubilee in May 2022. "We apologize for any inconvenience and disappointments this may cause. We know the President’s Day weekend is synonymous with the Agriculture and Food Fair of the U.S. Virgin Islands," the release further stated.

Governor Albert Bryan in November expressed support for the upcoming event. "My target right now is to have a really good Agricultural Fair," Mr. Bryan said. "We could have a thousand or how many people moving around and everybody being safe. It's a good place to start with a major event because there's no alcohol there, and it's a daytime event."

Vendor applications will be available beginning February 1, 2022, according to the release.
