Fireborn: A Message to the Ancestors, an animated short film centered on Virgin Islands heritage, cultural identity and preservation, will premiere worldwide on July 3, 2026, exclusively through The Virgin Islands Consortium in commemoration of Virgin Islands Emancipation Day.
The short film is a collaboration between animator Kirk Rojas, owner of Remedii Productions, and Eliana Schuster-Brown, artist, owner of Eliana B Artistry, and creator of the Prolific Immersive Art Experience.
The project made its debut as part of the Prolific 5 Immersive Art Experience, where audiences were introduced to a Caribbean story that blends fiction, ancestral memory and cultural preservation.
Fireborn: A Message to the Ancestors is set in a future Virgin Islands where cultural identity and independence are under threat. In the story, a descendant of the legendary Rebel Queens sends a message back through time, urging the present generation to protect the art, traditions and stories that define the islands.

The film asks viewers to consider their role in preserving culture, with its central message focused on how the future of the Virgin Islands is shaped by what is remembered and protected today.
"We often celebrate where we've come from, but we don't always think about who is depending on us," said Schuster-Brown. "Fireborn asks us to imagine our descendants looking back at this moment in history and asking whether we protected the culture they inherited. My hope is that audiences leave inspired to become active stewards of our Caribbean identity."
The short blends traditional animation and generative AI with a message about cultural preservation, presenting that work not as nostalgia but as an investment in the future.
"The idea of what does a future Virgin Islands look like, is something that I had been thinking about for quite some time," said Rojas, producer and director of Fireborn. "I enjoyed being able to examine past and present events through the lens of a fictional future. We see other cultures do it all the time in the sci-fi genre and we can do it too.”
Beyond the short film, Rojas and Schuster-Brown are preparing for the Prolific 6 Immersive Art Experience, set for February 2027, and intend to explore more Fireborn stories.
