ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas woman threw stones at the vehicle of a family member, breaking the windshield and headlights on Friday after the family member told the suspect that she was accused of stealing from a gentleman who gave her a ride.
Daliqua Moses, 23, appeared before Magistrate Judge Henry Carr, III via teleconference from the Bureau of Corrections on Monday for her advisement hearing. Moses has no prior convictions.
Moses was charged with damaging a vehicle and destruction of property as an act of domestic violence.
According to the probable cause fact sheet, the victim was driving past a bar and saw the suspect. She told the suspect that she saw a Facebook post with Moses’s picture stating that she stole from a gentleman who gave her a ride. The victim called Moses a thief and drove away to her home. Shortly thereafter, a loud bash was heard outside the victim’s home. The victim’s car windshield was broken. Moses was also observed breaking the headlights and cursing. Moses fled the location after jumping over a 6-foot-high ledge.
Moses was apprehended at the Schneider Regional Medical Center where she was observed limping into the hospital to have her angle checked out for an injury. While under arrest, Moses declined medical attention and agreed to give a statement to police when they arrived at the station.
While awaiting a Covid-19 test and sitting next to a detective, Moses made a phone call to a male requesting an alibi. She told the male that he should tell police that she was with him all day. Once they arrived at the Richard N. Callwood Command, Moses changed her mind and refused giving a statement, the fact sheet said.
Attorney Mary Ann Matney of the Office of the Public Defender requested that bail be set at $1,000 with the provision to post 10 percent of $100. However, Attorney John Barraco requested similar bail without the 10 percent provision, pursuant to domestic violence laws of the territory.
Judge Carr gave the suspect an even bigger break and ordered that Moses execute an unsecured appearance bond in the amount of $1,000. She was also ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim.
