ST. CROIX — A young woman who was killed during a barrage of gunfire Friday night in Frederiksted was not the target of the shooting but was caught in the crossfire, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima told the Consortium this morning, citing official details provided by detectives.

The woman, 21, identified by next of kin as Kadiyen Illidge of Sion Hill, was rushed to the hospital after the shooting on King Street, but did not survive.

"The woman that was killed was not the target; she got shot in crossfire," Mr. Derima said.

According to the 911 Emergency Call Center, the shooting occurred at about 10:18 p.m. The deceased victim was among five people who were shot last night, though the others were said to be in stable condition as of this morning, according to Mr. Derima.
