Woman Sustains Gunshot Wounds While Attempting to Flee Shooting Scene

ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas woman was shot twice on Tuesday night while attempting to leave the Hospital Ground area that had become a shooting scene.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched police to Hospital Ground, in the area of Goat Street, to investigate a call of shots fired.

Police encountered an individual who reported that three males, all dressed in black with black stockings over their faces, were in the roadway firing shots. Other witnesses reported that the males ran through the parking lot of the Department of Human Services firing their handguns, Mr. Derima said.

The female victim, who was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for medical care, told police that as she was leaving the area, she heard shots being fired and ran. She sustained two gunshot wounds to the body.

Mr. Derima said the case is under investigation.
