ST. CROIX — A woman appeared before a V.I. Superior Court judge on Friday after allegedly using a knife to damage her ex-girlfriend’s vehicle.
On February 8, officers were dispatched to Williams Delight where they met with a woman who reported that her ex- girlfriend, Keisha Belgrave, was attempting to break the glass of her vehicle.
The woman told officers that earlier, she had returned to the home she shared with Belgrave in order to retrieve some of her and her daughter's belongings. As she left, the woman said she saw a gray Nissan Altima trailing behind her driven by Kesha Belgrave. She told police the Altima followed her all the way to her mother's house where she lived now that she and Belgrave had separated after their 2-year relationship ended.
When the woman got to her mother's house, she says Belgrave pulled up next to her, got out of the car, and began tapping on the woman's window with a knife, telling her to turn it down and open the door. When she refused, the woman told police that Belgrave began jabbing at her door handle with the knife, until the handle broke.
When Police spoke with Belgrave she admitted to being at her ex-girlfriend’s mother’s house. All she wanted to do was speak with her ex, Belgrave said, but she refused to let the window down or open the door. Belgrave claimed that the woman’s door handle only came off because it was flimsy. She was then arrested and charged with destruction of property as an act of domestic violence.
In court on Friday, a judge ruled that Belgrave must post $250 in cash and sign an unsecured bond for the remainder of her $5,000 bail requirement before she can be released to her third-party custodian. Belgrave is not permitted to enter the premises where the incident took place and must maintain a minimum distance of 1,000 ft away from the victim. She is to have no contact, directly or indirectly with the victim or any witnesses.
