ST. THOMAS — A woman who was on probation in Florida was arrested at the Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas for being a fugitive from Justice.

According to court documents, on Tuesday evening, Customs and Border Control officers reported a possible fugitive from justice to the V.I. Police Department. Responding police officers were handed documents indicating that there was a warrant for the arrest of Candy Wiseman, issued by the state of Florida.

When contacted, the Martin County Sheriff’s office confirmed that the warrant was active, and that they were willing to extradite Wiseman. She was allegedly serving a 5-year probation term for burglary, criminal mischief and child neglect when she traveled to the USVI without the permission of her probation officer.

After her arrest, Wiseman was remanded into custody and appeared before Magistrate Simone VanHolten-Turnbull on Wednesday for an extradition hearing. Because Wiseman did not waive extradition, the judge set bail at $75,000, and gave the state of Florida 30 days to issue a Governor’s Warrant for her removal and return to the mainland.

A review hearing is scheduled for November 4.
