Woman Fatally Shot at Galleon House Hotel in St. Thomas; VIPD Launches Homicide Probe

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Maireni Heredia Tiburcio, sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. VIPD’s Major Crimes Division is leading the investigation and is calling for the public’s help with any information.

ST. THOMAS — Police are investigating the death of a woman who was discovered unresponsive Friday morning at the Galleon House Hotel on St. Thomas. Authorities confirmed she had sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

Central Dispatch was alerted at approximately 11:48 a.m. on August 29 about an unresponsive female at the guesthouse, the VIPD confirmed to the Consortium Saturday morning. Responding officers arrived at the scene and located the woman with visible injuries.

Emergency Medical Technicians examined the victim and determined that she had no vital signs. At about 12:26 p.m., she was officially pronounced dead.

The woman was identified by next of kin as 42-year-old Maireni Heredia Tiburcio.

The VIPD’s Major Crimes Division is leading the investigation. Detectives are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
