ST. THOMAS — Another woman is currently facing drug trafficking charges after being arrested at the Cyril E. King Airport with marijuana in a suitcase.

According to court documents, on March 23, Kesahia Davis flew into St. Thomas on a Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Lauderdale. During X-Ray scanning of the checked luggage on the flight, Customs and Border Patrol officers detected what they referred to as “anomalies” inside one of the suitcases.
Suspecting that the bag may contain marijuana, the officers sent the suitcase through to baggage claim, so as to observe who might come to retrieve it.
When Ms. Davis took the suitcase off the conveyor belt and headed towards the exit, she was detained by CBP officers. After allegedly confirming that the bag was hers, she was escorted to a secondary screening area.
There, the officers unlocked the suitcase using a TSA key, upon being told by Davis that she did not have one which could open the luggage. Inside, officers reportedly found just under four kilograms of a substance which field tested positive for marijuana.
Officers say Davis then explained that the bag was given to her by her cousin. The day prior to her flight, she reportedly flew from Ohio to meet her relative in Florida. She took possession of the luggage just before her flight to St. Thomas. Davis reportedly told officers that the lock was already on the suitcase, and that the bag felt heavy once she took it. However, she denied knowledge of its contents.
Upon arrival on St. Thomas, Davis said that she was supposed to have gone to a hotel, where she would be contacted by someone who would take the bag from her. Indeed, she reportedly disclosed that someone had called her from an unknown number shortly after her arrival on island. This was the person who would have collecting the bag, she believed.
While performing an inventory of her personal effects as they prepared to take Davis into custody, officers reportedly found a small key hidden away. The key opened the lock that had been on the marijuana-containing suitcase.

Davis was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. She was remanded into custody until her first court appearance, scheduled for Wednesday.
