ST. THOMAS — On Wednesday Idesha Patricia Sterrod was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, the U.S. Attorney's Office has announced.
According to court records, on August 5 Sterrod arrived at the Cyril E. King airport from Miami. She was traveling with three minor females, ages 12, 14, and 15, who are not related to her. While conducting inspection of checked luggage, the Customs and Border Protection canine alerted to the scent of narcotics on a suitcase. The suitcase, along with several others, contained approximately 76 kilograms of marijuana.
A detention hearing will be held before Judge Ruth Miller today.
United States Attorney Shappert reminds the public that a criminal complaint is merely a charging document and is not evidence of guilt. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The case is being investigated by Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security, and Virgin Islands Police Department.
