ST. THOMAS — The V.I. Police Department announced Wednesday that a woman who bragged about pushing another woman into the sea at the Charlotte Amalie Waterfront was arrested Tuesday and charged with third-degree assault.
The woman, identified as 19-year-old Lydianyce Jahnisha Rivera of Estate Fortuna, boasted to officers during her interview that she did, in fact push the woman into the water after being harassed, according to the V.I.P.D. Video footage shared on WhatsApp also showed the alleged assault.
Prior to the interview, police — citing the other woman in the matter — said Rivera was on social media, particularly Facebook, talking about the incident and defending her actions.
The woman who was pushed into the sea also told police that Rivera knew she could not swim.
The incident took place on April 27 during the annual Boat Race — a longstanding tradition during the St. Thomas Carnival (V.I. Carnival) — and is being actively investigated, according to V.I.P.D. Director of Communications Glen Dratte.
