ST. CROIX — A woman appeared before a V.I. Superior Court judge on Friday to face charges after police say she entered a woman’s home without her permission and assaulted her.
On February 15, VIPD officers responded to a residence in Estate Richmond after a woman called the 911 Emergency Call Center requesting police assistance. When police arrived, the woman told officers that she had been at home earlier when two women came to her front door and began shouting at her to come outside of the residence.
The woman says that when she looked through the window she recognized a former friend, 20-year-old Tishanna Lewis. The other woman then reportedly kicked open the front door and the pair barged inside and began an altercation in the woman's kitchen.
In the melee, Lewis is said to have thrown one of the woman’s pots at her while the other woman pelted a spray can, allegedly hitting the home's resident in the face. The woman says she then ran to her bedroom, locking the door behind her. She told police that the home invaders kicked that door down also, and Lewis reportedly began punching her in the face while the second assailant recorded the beating on Lewis's mobile phone. That suspect also reportedly grabbed the victim's mobile phone and left with Lewis.
The responding officers noted the bruising on the woman’s body, and she was subsequently taken to hospital for medical attention.
Armed with a physical description of Lewis, police made contact with her and transported her to the Ancilmo Marshall Command police station. She told police that she and her cousin, a minor, went to the victim’s house because she owed them money. She admitted that her cousin kicked the woman’s door in and that they entered the house uninvited. Lewis also confirmed instigating the fight, breaching the second door, and continuing the assault in the bedroom. Lewis said that she had the woman’s phone at her home.
Lewis was then arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, home invasion, aggravated assault, battery and grand larceny.
In court on Friday, a judge ruled that Lewis be allowed to post $500 cash while she and her third-party custodian signed an unsecured bond for the remainder of the $75,000 bail. She will be barred from leaving St. Croix and will be placed on 24-hr house arrest, but be allowed to leave the residence to attend adult education classes as well as for emergency medical care. Lewis must surrender her passport and report to the probation office every Tuesday. She is to have no contact with the victim or any witness, or the other suspect in the matter.
