ST. CROIX — A woman was arrested on Monday for an alleged crime she committed against her mother in 2019, with police alleging that the woman, identified as 29-year-old Kaminah Davis of Estate St. John, forged her mother's signature and wrote a $4,000 check from an organization that neither she nor her mother were part of.
That's according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, who said that Davis turned herself in to detectives of the V.I.P.D.'s Economic Crimes Unit, after learning of a warrant out for her arrest.
She was charged with grand larceny, obtaining money by false pretense, forgery and identity theft.
Mr. Derima said the investigation revealed that sometime in 2019, Davis intentionally forged her mother’s signature on a check from an organization and wrote the check for over $4,000. Davis then electronically deposited the check into her mother’s Banco Popular account, knowing that she nor her mother was employed at the organization.
Unable to post bail of $35,000, Davis was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility pending her advisement hearing.
The VIPD is encouraging the community to report incidents of economic crime by calling 911, the Economic Crime Unit at (340) 778-2211, or Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222- TIPS.
