ST. CROIX — A female St. Croix resident allegedly threatened the lives of minors and her domestic partner while under the influence of alcohol.
Alicia Altagracia Soriano De Naar appeared before Magistrate Judge Ernest E. Morris, Jr. via teleconference from the Bureau of Corrections on Monday for her advisement hearing.
De Naar was charged with disturbance of the peace as an act of domestic violence, and child abuse.
According to the probable cause fact sheet, on Sunday, August 29 while De Naar was driving with minors in the car, she swerved and drove in the opposite lane towards oncoming traffic. She almost hit another vehicle head on. The minors were so afraid that they called her male domestic partner. While on the phone with him, she told the minors, “I am going to kill the two of you.”
Once police arrived at her destination, the arresting officer said in the fact sheet that De Naar had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her person, glossy eyes, and slurred speech. While officers were speaking with De Naar, she walked away into her home and told her male domestic partner in Spanish, “Wait until they leave and see what I going do to you,” the fact sheet said.
The minors told police that De Naar has threatened them prior to this incident and has grabbed a knife while making threats, but never followed through on those threats. They fear for their lives when De Naar drinks, the minors said in the fact sheet.
Attorney Amelia Joseph of the Office of the Territorial Public Defender shared that De Naar had nowhere to reside upon release and was willing to immediately undergo treatment or get help for alcoholism.
Judge Morris ruled on the following release conditions for De Naar:
- Post $1,000 cash bail
- Provide the court with an address and telephone number where she will reside
- Prohibited from leaving St. Croix without the court’s prior written permission
- Surrender passport or not allowed to obtain one
- Maintain minimum distance of 1,000 feet from alleged victims
- No unlawful contact with victims or witnesses
