VIPD Seizes Firearms in Hospital Ground, Arrests Suspect

ST. THOMAS — A heavily armed Kenan Thomas, 32, of Hospital Ground was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of illegal handguns and assault rifles. 

The VI Police Department Special Operations Bureau spotted and arrested the suspect at about 2:20 p.m. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm less than 1000 feet of a public park, according to police spokesman Toby Derima.

Officers were conducting an inspection in Hospital Ground in the vicinity of Jah Yard when they encountered Thomas, who was in possession of two assault rifles and two semi-automatic handguns, according to police. He was placed under arrest on the spot, Mr. Derima said.

Unable to make bail of $25,000, Thomas was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
