ST. CROIX — Shots were fired into a large gathering near the Cane Bay Landing Beach Bar on Sunday evening, prompting multiple emergency calls but fortunately causing no injuries, according to the V.I. Police Department.
VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte said 911 dispatchers began receiving reports at 5:21 p.m. on September 21. During one of the calls, shots could be heard in the background. Several individuals contacted emergency services to report the incident.
According to Dratte, witnesses described a gray vehicle driving past the beach area before gunfire erupted into the crowd. The vehicle was seen leaving the scene immediately afterward.
“No one was hurt,” Dratte confirmed, stressing that no injuries were reported despite the danger posed by the reckless gunfire.
At this time, VIPD has no suspect information other than the description of the gray vehicle observed leaving Cane Bay following the incident.
The case remains under investigation. The VIPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here, or call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 778-2211, or 911.
