ST. THOMAS — Somebody, somewhere heard something or saw something out of the ordinary near the condemned Tutu High Rise Building 13 last Thursday afternoon.
And any piece of information about that day - no matter how small - could help authorities solve the senseless killings of 14-year-old Aaron Ashby and his 29-year-old cousin, Rique Ashby, both shot to death at around 12:57 p.m.
V.I. Police, who have no suspects or persons of interest at the moment, are imploring anyone to contact authorities anonymously.
“We are seeking the support and assistance of the community in solving this heinous crime,” said Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor during a Friday press conference to make a plea to the community for tips and information.
The older Ashby, accompanied by his young cousin, was operating heavy equipment, emptying trash bins in the area when they were shot, according to the territory's waste management agency.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has offered a $10,000 reward for information on the murders. Anyone with information can call or text the ATF at 202-702-7219. The calls are anonymous.
