ST. CROIX – One man is now facing the V.I. Superior Court after reportedly brandishing a firearm at the fast food restaurant where he worked.
According to court documents, on Monday night police were dispatched to Wendy's in Sunny Islands following reports that an employee had been seen with a gun. Responding officers spoke to security, who told them that there had been a verbal altercation between two employees near the entrance to the restaurant. A third employee resolved the issue and all three went back to work, the security guard said.
One of the men involved in the argument, when asked by officers, told them that he did not have a firearm on his person, lifting his shirt to confirm that he was indeed unarmed. The other man, Rishawn Henry, was reportedly intercepted by one of the police officers as he tried to flee the restaurant via the kitchen.
Henry reportedly admitted to police that he was carrying a firearm, and that the gun — identified as a Glock 23 .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a brown P80 receiver — was not licensed. The weapon was loaded with 10 live rounds of ammunition in its magazine, and one round in the chamber. Police say the weapon, when found, was in its leather holster, tucked inside Henry's pants and clipped onto a makeshift plastic-bag belt.
Henry was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of ammunition, and remanded into custody to await his advice of rights hearing.
Court records available to the public indicate that Henry did appear before Magistrate Yolan Brow Ross on Tuesday, who granted bail. However, as of press time, no details of his release conditions have been made available. The next court appearance for Henry has been scheduled for June 4.
