U.S. Border Patrol Agents announced today that they apprehended 59 Haitian migrants Wednesday morning after they disembarked in the coast of Rincon.
According to the release, Ramey Station Border Patrol Agents detected a makeshift “yola” type vessel approaching the coast near Pools Beach. Upon arrival, the agents discovered an abandoned 30 foot homemade vessel, blue in color with two outboard engines without any markings or registration. The vessel contained foreign branded food products.
The Border Patrol Agents searched the immediate area and apprehended a group of 59 non-citizens (23 adult females, 35 adult males and 1 male juvenile), the release stated.
Agents transported the group to the Ramey Station for immigration processing and removal.
The Ramey Sector is one of the twenty-one Sectors spread out across the United States. Encompassing the U.S. territorial islands of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, it is the only Border Patrol Sector located outside the continental United States. The Sector's entire border area is made up of coastline and its area of responsibility is made up of some 6,000 square miles of land and water area, including the twelve-mile band of territorial water surrounding the Islands.
