ST. THOMAS — The V.I.P.D. on Wednesday made known that it was in the process of investigating two shootings in St. Thomas that occurred Monday and Tuesday.
The Monday incident occurred about 11:41 a.m. in the area of Polyberg Hill, according to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima. Following the incident, Mr. Derima said officers were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center (S.R.M.C.) to meet with the victim.
The victim stated that he was walking eastward near Polyberg Hill when he observed a black vehicle traveling in the other direction on the same roadway. The victim added that he heard what sounded like a backfire after the black vehicle passed him, but would soon realize that he had been shot.
The victim was transported to the hospital via private vehicle where he received medical attention.
Second shooting, this time in Nadir
On Tuesday at roughly 5:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to S.R.M.C. in reference to a gunshot victim.
Upon the arrival of police to the medical center, the victim said he was walking westward in Nadir towards Brookman Road when he heard multiple gunshots and a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The victim also stated that he fell to the ground and noticed that he was shot.
This victim was also transported to S.R.M.C. by private vehicle for medical evaluation. He stated that he had no knowledge of who shot him or what firearm was used.
Both cases were under investigation as of Wednesday by the V.I.P.D.'s Criminal Investigation Bureau.
