ST. THOMAS — A violent incident late Thursday night in Mariendal Estate (Brookman Road) resulted in the death of two males, left a female victim in critical condition, and a taxi driver with a gunshot wound in his upper body, the Consortium has learned. The information was corroborated by the V.I. Police Department.

The VIPD is actively investigating the shooting, which led to one male dying at the scene and another succumbing to his injuries at the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Video surveillance footage is being examined and investigators are seeking information from witnesses, according to police.

The female victim, who was celebrating her birthday, sustained multiple gunshot wounds about her body and is in critical condition at the hospital, according to St. Thomas Police Chief Steven Phillip.

The VIPD was alerted to the situation at approximately 10:41 p.m. through its ShotSpotter system, which detected multiple rounds fired in the area. Concurrently, 911 received calls from citizens reporting both the gunfire and an auto accident involving an overturned vehicle at Brookman Road.

Responding swiftly, VIPD units, along with EMS and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene with a vehicle flipped over and one individual deceased within it, believed to be a result of the shooting. An additional gunshot victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

One of the deceased victims was identified as 19-year-old C’Nijah Anthony. The names of the other victims have not been released.

Moments before the deadly Mariendal Estate incident, VIPD officers were responding to a separate shooting in Anna's Retreat that left one male victim with a gunshot wound.

Chief Phillip described the shootings as senseless acts of violence and vowed to take every action within the law to bring perpetrators to justice.

The VIPD stresses that this is an active investigation and urges anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward to assist in solving this case. Send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
