Traffic Stop Yields Large Quantity of Marijuana, Unlicensed Firearm

ST. CROIX — A V.I.P.D. traffic stop on Friday resulted in the arrest of one individual and the confiscation of what the police department described as a large quantity of marijuana and an unlicensed firearm.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Friday at at 7:13 p.m., officers of the VI.P.D.'s Special Operations Bureau and the Marine Unit who were on special patrol arrested 37-year-old Kaheem Roberts of Mon Bijou. He was charged with carrying of firearms openly or concealed, possession or sale of ammunition, carrying of firearms openly or concealed within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a controlled Substance with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Roberts on Queen Mary Highway, in Estate Plessen. During the traffic stop, officers discovered a large amount of marijuana in Roberts’ vehicle, and an unlicensed firearm on his waist," stated the V.I.P.D. release.

Unable to make bail of $50,000, Roberts was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.
