ST. CROIX — A St. Croix man whose vehicle did not have a license plate prompted police to conduct traffic stop, a move that ultimately led to the arrest of the vehicle's driver over the weekend.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Friday at roughly 4:24 p.m., officers of the V.I.P.D. Special Operations Bureau arrested 33-year-old Jaime St. Omer of Estate Carlton, and charged him with carrying a firearm openly or concealed.
Mr. Derima said Special Operations Bureau officers were on patrol in the vicinity of the Golden Rock Shopping Center when they conducted a traffic stop on a gray Infiniti, operated by St. Omer, that did not have a rear license plate.
During the course of the traffic stop, officers discovered a firearm in the vehicle, and St. Omer admitted to officers that he did not have a license to possess the firearm. He was subsequently placed under arrest.
Unable to make bail of $50,000, St. Omer was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.
