ST. THOMAS — Following a rather violent Friday night on St. Croix, where four individuals were injured and one — a 21-year-old woman — died after being caught in the crossfire of a shootout, St. Thomas followed on Saturday evening with an incident that left three individuals injured by gunfire.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Saturday at approximately 5:35 p.m., police officers were dispatched to Coki Point Road regarding injuries by gunfire. The officers arrived at the area and found three gunshot victims. The victims were transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via private vehicle and ambulance for treatment. All three there were listed as being in stable condition, Mr. Derima said.
St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island Chief of Police Steven Phillip denounced the incident, urging residents to stop the violence. “We cannot continue to have these shootings occurring in our small community. We can find other ways of resolving our differences,” Chief Phillip said.
V.I.P.D. is investigating the incident, said Mr. Derima. The police force is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact police by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at (340) 774-2211 extension 5606, or anonymously with Crime Stoppers USVI at (800) 222-TIPS.
"Remember, if you see something, say something," said the V.I.P.D.
