ST. THOMAS — The VIPD'S Criminal Investigation Bureau has made a third arrest related to the theft of two scooters from a business on Kronprindsens Gade, St. Thomas.
According to police, on Friday 18-year-old Jerry Smith of Rendezvous, St. John was apprehended and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and grand larceny.
His arrest follows the earlier apprehension of two other individuals, Ja’Fari Todman of Hospital Ground, St. Thomas, and Kahden Daniels of Estate Bellevue, St. John. Both 18 years old, Todman and Daniels were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Bureau on Thursday, January 18, in connection with the same incident that occurred on October 22, 2023. The victim and business owner had reported the unlawful removal of two scooters from his business.
The arrests were the result of an investigation that involved reviewing video surveillance footage and gathering testimonies, leading to the identification of Todman, Daniels, and subsequently, Jerry Smith as suspects. All three have been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and grand larceny.
Following their arrests and processing, Todman and Daniels were unable to post the set bail of $25,000 each, leading to their transfer to the Bureau of Corrections, pending further court action. Similarly, Jerry Smith was unable to post bail of $25,000 and was also turned over to the Bureau of Corrections.
