ST. THOMAS — On Sunday, December 31, the V.I. Police Department arrested a fugitive from Texas, identified as Fadzai Makonyonga, at the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, according to a release from the V.I. Police Department.

The arrest occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. after the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) at the airport detained Makonyonga based on a warrant issued by the State of Texas.

Upon being notified by the CBP, VIPD officers promptly arrived at the airport, where Makonyonga was then turned over to their custody.

At approximately 3:18 p.m., the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the VIPD proceeded with the official arrest procedures, including booking, photographing, and processing of Makonyonga. The VIPD did not provide details about the Texas arrest warrant.

In accordance with legal protocols for fugitives, no bail was set for Makonyonga. She is currently awaiting her extradition hearing, during which the legal process for her transfer back to Texas will be determined. The VIPD continues to work closely with national agencies to ensure the enforcement of warrants and the administration of justice across state lines.
