An armed confrontation during a police operation results in suspect's injury and subsequent arrest

ST. THOMAS — In a dangerous encounter during the late hours of Monday, V.I. Police Department Special Operations Bureau officers exchanged gunfire with an armed suspect in the Oswald Harris Court Housing Community, St. Thomas, according to the VIPD.

The suspect, later identified as Foster G. Webster Jr., was apprehended after turning himself in with a gunshot wound.

This incident unfolded around 9:45 p.m. as part of Operation Guardian. Officers, upon spotting the armed individual firing at someone inside a vehicle, issued commands and engaged.

The following day, Webster Jr. presented himself at the Richard Callwood Command, seeking treatment for his injury. Subsequently arrested for first-degree assault, he was treated at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

Unable to post bail, Webster Jr. was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending a court hearing.
