A Frederiksted Healthcare building in Frederiksted that was vandalized. By. ERNICE GILBERT/ VI CONSORTIUM

ST. CROIX — A number of buildings in Frederiksted were vandalized over the weekend with what appeared to be used motor oil. The vandalism was first perpetrated against the Office of Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett late Friday or early Saturday, and on Sunday morning, Frederiksted residents woke up to the site of the Virgin Islands Supreme Court and one of the buildings of Frederiksted Health Care being vandalized with the oil.

The person or persons who vandalized the buildings appeared to have splashed the oil on the main entrance doors. V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima said the delegate's office was vandalized again late Saturday or early Sunday morning.

The Supreme Court and delegate's office worked to remove the oil from the buildings. As of Sunday afternoon, the Frederiksted Health Care building, which houses the firm's administrative offices, had the oil on the doors. Both the delegate's office and Frederiksted Health Care facilities were cordoned off.

Police have not been able to establish a motive, and Mr. Derima said the department was investigating the incidents.

Initially, it was thought by some that the vandalism to the delegate's office was political. But with the medical facility and the territory's Supreme Court also falling victim to the vandalism, the actions remain a mystery.

If you have information that may be relative to the police investigation into the vandalism, contact the police department at 340-778-2211, or send an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI here.
