ST. THOMAS — A violent altercation in downtown St. Thomas on Saturday led to a prompt arrest by the V.I. Police Department.
According to a VIPD release, officers responded to an emergency call at #24 Kronprindsens Gade, where they discovered a 54-year-old female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was immediately rushed to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The VIPD's investigation revealed that the victim had been engaged in a heated argument with 43-year-old Carmen Alegria Herrera, who reportedly stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene. Using surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony, police identified Herrera as the suspect. She was later found and detained at La Clave Bar & Restaurant, located across the street from the crime scene.
Herrera was charged with first-degree assault and is currently held at the Bureau of Corrections, unable to post the set bail of $75,000.00.
