ST. JOHN — A St. John man seen on camera setting an auto parts business on fire was arrested on Wednesday after turning himself in, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.
According to the news release, on Wednesday at approximately 2:30 p.m., Steven A. Haluszka, age 57 of Quacco & Zimmerman, turned himself in to police after learning that he was wanted. He was arrested and charged with second-degree arson.
The police report stated that on May 8, at about 5:45 a.m., a fire was reported at Caravan Auto Parts, located in Pine Peace, St. John. The Virgin Islands Fire Service was able to extinguish the fire before major damage occurred. Haluszka was observed on video surveillance and identified as the individual who caused the fire.
Unable to make bail of $35,000, Haluszka was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advisement hearing.
