St. Croix Man Succumbs to Gunshot Injuries After Being Shot in Car in Barren Spot

ST. CROIX — Police on Monday said 23-year-old Luis Perez of Castle Burke died at Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center after suffering gunshot wounds in his car in Estate Barren Spot on Sunday.

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, police officers were dispatched by the Emergency Call Center to the area at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

Upon officers’ arrival to the area, they discovered a vehicle in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle had gunshot wounds about the body. The victim was transported to Juan Luis Hospital and Medical Center for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

He was identified by next of kin as Perez.

This incident is being investigated by the VIPD Major Crime Unit, Mr. Derima said. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone with information about this homicide to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950 or Crime Stoppers USVI with an anonymous tip here.
