ST. CROIX — In federal court on Monday, a St. Croix man was sentenced to over 15 years in prison for carjacking and gun crimes.

A press release from U.S. Attorney for the Virgin Islands, Delia Smith indicates that on September 10 2017, Luis Davis was one of three men who broke into a home in Estate Rust Op Twist. They brandished a firearm at the couple who lived there, punched the male resident in the head, and threatened to kill them both if they did not hand over their money.

The trio then forced the couple, at gunpoint, into the rear seat of their Toyota Tacoma and drove them to where the man had said he left his wallet. The assailants took the wallet, the Tacoma, a Jeep Wrangler, and left the scene.

"In addition to the vehicles, Davis stole $200 cash, two; phones valued at $600 each and an iPad valued at $200," the release reads.

Davis was ultimately convicted in District Court of carjacking, using a firearm during a violent crime, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Following his 186 months of incarceration, Judge Wilma A. Lewis ordered a further 5 years of supervised release.  Davis will also have to pay a $1,000 fine, $1,600 in restitution and a $300 special assessment.

In addition to the federal offenses, Davis was also convicted of first-degree assault in the VI Superior Court.
