St. Croix Man Dies on Scene After Sustaining Multiple Gunshot Wounds

ST. CROIX — A St. Croix man identified by next of kin as 23-year-old Nathaniel Heywood was pronounced dead on the scene of a shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the Smithfield / Two Brothers area, just east of the Walter I. M. Hodge Pavilion housing community, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

According to the police report, the 911 Emergency Call Center received notification of the incident at about 11:48 a.m. and immediately dispatched officers to the area.

Upon their arrival to the scene, officers discovered Heywood, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body. Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene made a check of the victim and concluded that he had no vital signs, Mr. Derima said.
