ST. CROIX — V.I. Police Department officers have arrested a man who allegedly raped a minor in October of last year.
According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima, on Wednesday at roughly 6:40 a.m., detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and officers of the Special Operations Bureau arrested Kyle Stapleton, age 34 of Tan Tan Terrace, on a warrant issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands. Stapleton was charged with first-degree aggravated rape, first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, aggravated child abuse and neglect, possession of visual medium depicting sexually explicit conduct, and distribution or exhibition to a minor.
Police did not say if the victim male or female, with Police Lieutenant Naomi Joseph stating that the information was being withheld to protect the victim's identity.
The investigation into this incident revealed that in October of 2020, Stapleton sexually assaulted the minor, according to the news release. The warrant was issued on March 4, and Stapleton was located and placed under arrest.
Unable to post bail of $200,000, Stapleton was remanded to the Golden Grove Correctional Facility pending his advisement hearing.
